About Me

Salt Lake City artist Kathy Simpson masterfully bridges classical tradition and modern experimentation. Trained in the precise layering techniques of the Old Masters, her oil paintings are strikingly meticulous. This traditional expertise anchors her artistic voice, allowing her to confidently branch into inquisitive, thought-provoking mixed media pieces that challenge the imagination.
“My art is inspired by the vulnerability and unrest I see in the world today. I believe I am keenly in tune with this energy, in fact, I feel it in my soul. My pieces often start when I sense this unrest in clever song lyrics, visceral passages in books or the in the vitality of an unconventional, found object. I love telling stories with my pieces, and try do so with a spirit of harmony, yet insubordination. I’m always searching, discovering and dissecting. Because of this, the meaning of my work frequently evolves beyond its original intent, invariably making me merely the baton, and the universe the maestro.”
